Argie Karafotias
Argie Karafotias’ business is his American Dream come true. It survived the pandemic downturn thanks to strong community support. He was asked about the advisory question on the Nov. 5 ballot, which proposes property tax relief in exchange for a 3% tax hike on millionaires.
“Before we ask the question of raising taxes, I think it is important to address the need for any type of increase. Can things be made more efficient so as to not have to even seek this added tax burden? Is it going to generate enough funding to do what it intends to do?”
“Is it another ‘fund’ that bureaucrats decide behind closed doors who will and won’t benefit? There needs to be transparency and accountability when considering such things.”
“The higher the taxes, the less money people will spend going out to eat. People will cut down on going out and spending money. If people don’t spend money, the economy stops and businesses will slowly close down. We saw that during COVID.”
“My biggest fear is that if this doesn’t work, I have a feeling that in two years, in four years, they might come back and ask the people who make $500,000 or $300,000 to raise their taxes to fix this.”
