Over the last decade, Americans have steadily moved to states with lower taxes and fewer regulations on businesses. The population of business-friendly states such as Texas, Florida, and Utah has increased significantly. In fact, all three are expected to gain seats in the Congress after they are reapportioned.
According to a recent study by Election Data Services Inc., Texas could gain as many as four Congressional seats in 2012, while Florida could gain two new seats. Utah is also expected to gain one seat. These states have among the best business tax climates in the country. They are also ranked among the best states to do business in according to CEO Magazine.
This is in stark contrast to the states that will be losing seats in 2012. New York, New Jersey, and Illinois are among the states expected to lose seats. The three states have higher business taxes and heavier regulatory burdens on business.
