Chicago School Board races see challenge to CTU machine

CHICAGO (Nov. 6, 2024) – With the majority of polling places reporting, results indicate Chicagoans have rejected a Chicago Teachers Union majority in the Chicago School Board races.

Only four of the CTU-backed Chicago Board of Education candidates won, and one of those candidates ran uncontested. Meanwhile, six candidates – three of whom were backed by Illinois Policy PAC – won.

Matt Paprocki, President and CEO of Illinois Policy, released the following statements:

“The Chicago Teachers Unions spent millions of dollars on a campaign to solidify their power over Chicago Public Schools and failed. This failure is a referendum on the CTU and Mayor Brandon Johnson’s radical agenda.”

“CTU leadership continues to demand the most extreme government union contract in the country, which would remove school choice and cost taxpayers billions of dollars, inevitably leading to tax hikes. Voters said no. Now aldermen must heed the will of the people and protect them from tax hikes and other policies that would harm our economy.”
