Amendment 1 hasn’t reached 60% approval: Statement from the Illinois Policy Institute

CHICAGO (Nov. 9, 2022) – The votes are still being counted for Amendment 1, the proposed amendment to the Illinois Constitution.

Matt Paprocki, president and CEO of the Illinois Policy Institute, provided the following statement:

“Amendment 1 has so far failed to reach the 60% voter approval threshold needed to pass outright. That means we have to wait for the final vote count to come in and for all voters to be heard to determine whether the amendment passes.

“This was a David vs. Goliath fight with government unions spending more than $15 million to persuade voters this would falsely apply to ‘all workers.’ But the numbers indicate the amendment lacks support from taxpayers who were wary of a special interest power grab. We now wait on a technicality to see if the amendment passes.”
