End Illinois’ fireworks ban

Did you know using fireworks in Illinois is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by fines of up to $2,500 or a year in prison?

That’s because Illinois is one of just four states in the nation that bans the sale and possession of fireworks.

Meanwhile, neighboring Indiana earns 4,000 seasonal jobs and $2.5 million in tax revenue every year from fireworks sales alone. And despite states across the country legalizing fireworks in the past decade, a 2019 report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission showed no increase in fireworks-related injuries.

It’s time Illinois allowed a little more freedom on Independence Day – not to mention new jobs and tax revenue – and legalizes the sale of fireworks.
