Nearly 1,800 workers will be laid off throughout Illinois in the next two months.
This unfortunate holiday news will affect nearly 500 Dominick’s employees as the company prepares to close up shop in Illinois. The latest round of notices includes 141 workers from the company’s Oak Brook headquarters and another 332 workers at its Northlake branch, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN report.
Dominick’s operated 72 stores in Illinois, which will be closed or sold by year’s end – affecting more than 5,600 store employees.
In addition to the Dominick’s layoffs, Indiana-based Berry Plastics Corp. will shed 480 workers as it prepares to shut down its Alsip location. Hickory, N.C.-based telecommunications equipment company CommScope Holdings Inc. will close its Joliet plant in 2014, meaning nearly 200 Illinois workers will lose their jobs.
