How do I vote early in Illinois?
Illinois has made it easier to register to vote, but finding your in-person voting place before Election Day can be a headache. Here’s a breakdown to make it easier.
This Election Day, Illinois voters will have the chance to cast their ballots in races for the White House, U.S. House, Illinois Supreme Court, Illinois General Assembly, Chicago school board, municipal government and more.
Voting early is a good way to cast your vote in person yet avoid crowds and make sure your voice is heard by Nov. 5.
Who can vote early in Illinois?
You must:
- Be a citizen of the United States.
- Be a resident of Illinois and of your precinct for at least 30 days before the election.
- Be at least 18 years old on or before the election Nov. 5.
- Cannot be serving a prison sentence.
- Cannot be voting anywhere else.

When and where can I vote early?
The early voting period begins Sept. 26 and runs through Nov. 4. Early voting polling places vary based on each county. Click here to see where your county’s early voting polling places are and when they are scheduled to be open. Typically, most counties will have early voting available at the county clerk’s office, in addition to temporary polling places or ones set up in specific precincts.
Note: if you choose to vote early in a location other than the county clerk’s office, the polling place may only be open for voters within certain precincts. Always check with your local election authority to determine which early voting place you may vote at.
How do I find my precinct?
Every address is located within a specific precinct. Before Election Day, temporary polling places may or may not be open for specific precincts. On Election Day, each precinct has its own polling place or places where voters within that precinct go to vote in person.

What do I need to vote early?
If you are already registered to vote in your precinct, then all you have to do is show up. Not registered? Click here. The deadline to register online is Oct. 20.
A form of identification is not required when voting early, but it is recommended you bring an ID in case there is any confusion about your registration, address or signature.
