Politico: Rauner picks up several victories in legislative races
Gov. Bruce Rauner lifted Illinois Republicans out of the “super-minority” in the Illinois Legislature on Tuesday, helping his party pick up several seats in the House and two in the Senate.
But even as he revels at that victory, Rauner lost a strong ally with the defeat of his hand-picked comptroller Leslie Munger.
Sun-Times: Illinois voters approve ‘Safe Roads Amendment’
Illinois voters Tuesday night approved the so-called “Safe Roads Amendment” that ensures billions of state dollars will be set aside for transportation projects — but according to opponents — could cause financial strain in the future.
In early returns, with about 86 percent of precincts reporting throughout the state, 79 percent voted to add Section 11 to Article IX of the Illinois Constitution.

Backed by tens of millions of dollars from Gov. Bruce Rauner and his allies, Republicans appeared poised to gain at least three House seats and two Senateseats from Democrats led by House Speaker Michael Madigan.
Late Tuesday evening, the Republicans looked like they had picked up four Democratic seats in the House, lost one of their own and two races were too close to call. Republicans picked up seats in McHenry County, Kankakee, the Quad Cities and downstate Marion, but appeared to lose one near St. Louis. House races in Grayslake and LaSalle went down to the wire.
