Chicago Sun-Times: Illinois records lowest daily COVID-19 death count since March
Health officials on Sunday announced an additional one person has died due to the coronavirus, making it the lowest reported COVID-19 death day since March 21 — three days after the state recorded its first death.
The one fatality — a 90-year-old man in Bond County — brings the state’s death toll to 7,398.
The Center Square: Report: More Illinois service businesses shuttering than temporarily closing
Thousands of businesses in Illinois have closed since Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued stay-at-home orders to reduce the spread of COVID-19, according to a quarterly report from the consumer review website Yelp, which said more of those businesses will remain closed rather than reopen.
In its “economic average” report, Yelp found about 5,100 Illinois-based business listings on its site have either temporarily closed or will permanently shutter.
State Journal-Register: Langfelder seeks ouster of longtime Springfield airport chairman
Frank Vala has been chairman of the Springfield Airport Authority — the governing body that oversees Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport — since 2006, but he won’t be for much longer if Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder gets his way.
“I think there needs to be a change with the airport chairman,” Langfelder said, speaking Friday morning at a Citizens Club of Springfield discussion on city finances. “And the reason for that is nothing personal, it’s nothing political.”
