The Center Square: Pritzker pushes mask fines for businesses ahead of Tuesday rule group meeting
Gov. J.B. Pritzker is making a last-minute push to get his COVID-19 punishment to stick with up to $2,500 in fines for businesses not complying with enforcing his mask mandates. A member of the commission that could block those rules said the governor needs to call a special session of the legislature.
Pritzker brought doctors together Sunday with associations and other groups that support financial penalties for businesses that don’t enforce his face covering rules.
Chicago Sun-Times: City takes new steps to deter gatherings at Montrose Beach after Lightfoot slams ‘reckless’ lakefront party
After Mayor Lori Lightfoot slammed revelers for ignoring city rules and social distancing guidelines and crashed their party Saturday at Montrose Beach, officials quickly installed new fencing and limited vehicle access to the area to prevent others from gathering on the closed-off lakefront.
On Sunday, Chicago Park District spokeswoman Michele Lemons said the fence along the lakeshore was specifically put in place Saturday night “to deter large gathering like those observed yesterday.”

The City Council this week could take a step toward equipping police with body cameras, a move that would meet one of the original demands made by protesters after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.
Members of the city’s Community Relations Commission are recommending that the city pursue cameras capable of recording video and audio of police encounters. But the idea may not enjoy smooth sailing through the City Council.
