Illinois Democrats have unveiled updated congressional maps that propose a second Latino-leaning Chicago area district and could mean primary matchups for two Democratic incumbents in the suburbs and in two other races featuring Republican incumbents.
Democrats, who control state government and redistricting in Illinois, released the revised maps Saturday. The maps come weeks after their first draft of boundaries that were also aimed at giving Democratic candidates an advantage in elections as the party fights to keep control of the U.S. House in 2022.

A new casino in Chicago’s south suburbs is one step closer.
State regulators have narrowed the number of proposals down to two, with one near the border of Homewood and East Hazel Crest and another in Matteson, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. The backers are due to make a presentation to the Illinois Gaming Board in the coming days. The final selection for the casino license will happen next year.
NBC 5 Chicago: New Mandatory 10-Digital Dialing Order For Part of Chicago Area Effective This Fall
Residents in part of the Chicago area using area code 708 will be required to use 10-digit dialing when making local calls, Illinois officials announced Friday.
The Illinois Commerce Commission said the dialing order, effective Oct. 24, will be put in place to ensure users can dial 9-8-8 to reach the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline starting July 16, 2022.
