Chicago Sun-Times: Johnson must break two campaign promises to get budget passed, City Council critic warns
Mayor Brandon Johnson must break two campaign promises — by renewing a ShotSpotter contract he canceled and raising property taxes he said he would freeze — to get his 2025 budget through the City Council, one of Johnson’s most outspoken critics warned Thursday.
Southwest Side Ald. Marty Quinn (13th) is one of 34 alderpersons who tried twice to force the mayor to keep the gunshot detection technology. Johnson ignored both votes, not even bothering to veto either ordinance, despite saying he would.
The Chicago Tribune: Gov. JB Pritzker and wife gave big for DNC, which raised $97M in all
When Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker helped land the 2024 Democratic National Convention for Chicago, he vowed city and state taxpayers wouldn’t be left with the bill and that he wouldn’t pick up the whole tab himself.

The couple, through their trust fund, shelled out $5.6 million — nearly 6% of the $97 million raised by the convention’s local host committee.

Champaign County voters are being asked on their ballots to increase the sales tax a quarter of a cent for safety purposes.
It would raise $7 million dollars a year. Sheriff Dustin Heuerman said it would pay for new ways to respond to a scene — including mental health professionals.
