Tim Mapes, 69, Madigan’s fierce gatekeeper for decades, reported Tuesday to a medium-security federal prison in Pensacola, Florida, to begin serving his 30-month sentence for perjury, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

An emboldened City Council was poised Wednesday to defy Mayor Brandon Johnson for the second straight month — this time, on the issue of ethics, but a parliamentary maneuver spared the mayor, at least temporarily.
The ordinance championed by Johnson’s handpicked Ethics Committee chair would have authorized suspensions and/or stiff penalties for lobbyists donating to mayoral campaigns in defiance of a 2011 executive order signed by then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The ordinance also would ban lobbyists from donating to mayoral candidates through separate business entities.

Mayor Brandon Johnson on Wednesday defended his decision to begin evicting migrant families with school-age children from city shelters, even as more than half of adults had nowhere else to go when they were asked to leave.
City officials began enforcing a 60-day limit on shelter stays for most adults in mid-March, pledging to redouble efforts to help them live independently after many arrived on buses paid for by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.
