Taxpayers are set to give the struggling electric bus industry a jolt after Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced nearly $20 million for 70 zero-emission buses at nine Illinois school districts.

Mayor Brandon Johnson’s top labor adviser told the Chicago Public Schools board leaders that the mayor expected CEO Pedro Martinez to be out by Sept. 26, according to an internal memo obtained by the Tribune.

St. Hubert School in Hoffman Estates is but one suburban Catholic school that’s come up with its own solution to the end of the state’s Invest in Kids Scholarship Tax Credit Program, that’s been cited as a factor in the closure of some in 2024.
