Questions persist on how Illinois taxpayers will be able to afford the subsidies for undocumented immigrant health care. Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he’d like to have everyone covered eventually.
As part of the state’s fiscal year 2024 budget that began July 1, Pritzker modified the state’s health care program to provide coverage for migrants only over 65 for a total budgeted amount of $550 million. Questions remain on how the state will afford it. Pritzker was asked about the costs and floated the idea of the state moving to a universal health care system.

Starting Thursday, more than 100,000 people will flock to Grant Park for each of the four days of Lollapalooza, the first iteration of the festival during Mayor Brandon Johnson’s tenure.
The music festival promises to be the largest attraction in terms of attendance in a summer that’s already seen several high-profile happenings in the downtown area: the NASCAR street race and Soldier Field concerts by global superstars Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Ed Sheeran. Chicago police said they would be ready for the mega-event.

Johnson’s team has made a concerted effort to coordinate with civic leaders, community-based organizations and street intervention teams to dissuade young people from wreaking havoc.

Look out for yourself and for people around you, say Lollapalooza organizers in advance of this weekend’s four-day fest. Here are some tips to stay safe.
• First, the facts: The festival takes place in Grant Park, with the main entrance at Michigan Avenue and Ida B. Wells Drive and the north entrance at Monroe Street and Columbus Drive. Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, through Sunday, Aug. 6.
WICS: Pritzker Signs Bill Establishing Full Day Kindergarten
Governor JB Pritzker signed HB2396, requiring each school board to establish a kindergarten program with full-day attendance, beginning with the 2027-2028 school year.
Under this bill, every district must also establish a half-day program that is developmentally appropriate and provides opportunities for play-based learning.
