Amazon announced plans to open another Illinois shipping facility in Crest Hill, Ill., which is expected to create up to 800 jobs.
Online shopping giant Amazon announced plans to open a new shipping facility in Crest Hill, Ill., which is expected to employ between 400 and 800 people.
In the last year, Amazon has also announced plans to open new facilities in Monee and Aurora. Amazon already has locations in Joliet, Romeoville, and Edwardsville.
Amazon hopes to employ around 8,000 people in Illinois by the end of 2018 after opening its new facilities in Illinois.
Some of the internet retail goliath’s investment in Illinois – specifically, in Joliet, Aurora and Monee – has been coaxed by deals worth tens of millions in potential tax credits.
Since 2015, Illinois and Amazon have signed multiple deals potentially worth millions of dollars in tax credits through the Economic Development for a Growing Economy, or EDGE, tax credit program.
Coinciding with its opening of the Joliet facility that created 3,500 jobs, Amazon received an EDGE deal the state estimated will be worth $42 million over 10 years.
Amazon’s Monee facility, which plans employs 2,500 people, received an EDGE deal the state estimated will be worth nearly $28 million in potential tax credits over 10 years.
Amazon’s planned Aurora facility also received an EDGE deal the state estimated to be worth up to $12.89 million over a 10-year period, and was set to receive a property tax abatement worth $400,000 from the city of Aurora, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.
