This Election Day is significant in Illinois because voters will have the chance, for the first time in 50 years, to tell state leaders whether they want their income taxes raised and whether they trust state lawmakers with greater power to set those tax rates.

Voting early is a good way to cast your vote in person yet avoid crowds and make sure your voice is heard by Nov. 3. It gives those worried about mail-in voting an alternative.
Early voting officially opened Sept. 24 statewide, Oct. 1 for Chicagoans and runs through Nov. 2. Locations vary by county. Click here to see where your county’s early voting polling places are and when they are scheduled to be open. Typically, most counties will have early voting available at the county clerk’s office, in addition to temporary polling places or ones set up in specific precincts.
Who can vote early in Illinois?
You must:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a resident of Illinois and of your precinct for at least 30 days before the election
- Be at least 18 years old on or before the election Nov. 3
- Cannot be serving a prison sentence
- Cannot be voting anywhere else
