PRO-LIBERTY ANSWERS TO CANDIDATE QUESTIONS

(Chicago, Ill.) Each election season many newspapers prepare a series of questions to send candidates running for political office. These questions give a paper’s editorial board a feeling for the candidate and determine whether they will consider an interview for a possible endorsement.

The Illinois Policy Institute has obtained the questions from the Pioneer Press, which publishes about 50 local newspapers throughout Illinois. We have provided answers to many of the questions that fall within the scope of our organization’s mission in order to provide the public and office-seekers a liberty-based perspective on issues such as the economy, jobs, energy, health care and education.

As with all of our policy products, our message is clear: Limited, open government that errs on the side of liberty allows people to choose how to spend their money, where to send their children to school, and unburdens entrepreneurs so they may begin new businesses that create jobs and spur innovation.

Although we have not answered every question, those we do address can be explained in further detail by the resources authored by Institute scholars, which are available on our website–www.illinoispolicyinstitute.org.

Particularly useful are A Survey and Overview of Privatization in Illinois’ Public Schools, Mandate Mania, Why Cap-and-Trade Won't Work for Illinois, The Case for a Gas Tax Suspension, Working for Transparency in Illinois, Tax Credits Benefit Students...And the Budget, Why Aren't There More Charter Schools in Illinois? and the 2008 Illinois Piglet Book.
