Minorities have suffered disproportionately under the failed economic policies of Gov. Pat Quinn.
From its pre-recession peak through 2013, the black employment rate has plummeted by 7.1 percentage points, more than any other racial group in Illinois. Fewer than half of black adults are employed in Illinois.
And the black male employment rate has been lower under Quinn than at any other time in recorded state history.
Employment among adult black males has collapsed an astounding 10 percentage points since 2006, and has shown almost no signs of recovery.
Latinos have also suffered a stunning collapse in employment under Quinn. The Latino employment rate has fallen 6.4 percentage points since 2008.
Latino men have also suffered disproportionately under Quinn’s leadership. The employment rate for adult Latino men has plunged by more than 8 percentage points from its pre-recession peak.
Instead of making capricious claims about racism, Quinn should focus on enacting policies that would put minority Illinoisans back to work. Under his leadership, Illinois has the worst recovery from the Great Recession of any state in America, and it’s harming those he claims to help.
