That puts the Land of Lincoln well below the national average. Nationwide, just 67 percent of those the Obama administration counted as “enrolled” in the Affordable Care Act had paid their premiums as of April 15, according to new data from the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

As of March 1, the Obama administration counted 114,000 Illinoisans as signed up or ObamaCare.

But even former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius acknowledged that: “You are not fully enrolled [in ObamaCare] until you pay your premium.”

Across the board, these new numbers paint a bleak picture. President Barack Obama is relying on young Americans to buy into his sweeping health insurance law. But across the nation, the data show that this age group makes up a small segment of supposed enrollees.

Nationwide, just 10 percent of enrollees were ages 18-25. In Illinois, that number is even lower, at just 8 percent.

No one can be sure of the motivations of those who “signed up” for insurance through the exchanges but did not pay for their premium. Some may have found insurance through new employment. Others may have decided coverage was too expensive after signing up.

The bottom line is this: The Obama administration is not giving Americans a clear picture of what ObamaCare enrollment numbers actually look like.
